COTTON MADE IN AFRICA YARN: Our cotton made in Africa yarns can be processed into distinctive apparel and hometextiles with a unique touch.

WHAT IS COTTON MADE IN AFRICA?

Our concern for “Social Business” and sustainability, led us to start producing yarns from Cotton made in Africa. Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) is an Aid Trade Foundation initiative that was established in 2005. Its objective is to support African smallholder cotton farmers through sustainable cultivation methods to increase their yield and income.

COTTON MADE IN AFRICA MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

CmiA cotton has a far smaller environmental footprint than conventionally grown cotton, as it is cultivated according to sustainable farming criteria. It generates up to 70% less greenhouse gas emissions and uses zero liters of fresh water. It supports production with natural fertilizers, and is harvested only by hand. CmiA is processed into apparel and home textiles in production markets worldwide.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

Cotton made in Africa has time to ripen, and is harvested by hand at the right time and taken for further processing. After the harvest, seed and fibre are separated from each other in the gins, and the thin coating of wax that surrounds the fibres and protects them from wetness is removed, resulting in fabrics with unique feel and surface.
